I tried hard to change the XUL layout so that the web playlist would appear vertically alongside the web page rather than underneath (I have a wide monitor), but failed. Is it possible?

Not easily -- the web playlists are generated automatically when new tabs get loaded.

If you can understand and subclass this object here:

you could configure a proper listener for the dom mutation events that happen when the new tab is created with the new playlist.

then you would have to change the box-orientation of the parent that contains both the webpage and the playlist to be horizontal (to the right) rather than vertical (underneath).

how difficultily do you think that would be?

I guess that would be the parent of the vboxes created by the SCARY HACK, i.e. the linkedBrowser. I'll give that a try, thanks.
