Itching to join in and start porting? Awesome. Porting add-ons can be as simple as two changes to the extension's chrome.manifest & install.rdf files (for simple extensions without much UI). Obviously, some more work is involved for more complicated extensions - but fear not, the Songbird team is around to help.
Here's how to get started.
Steps:
- Pick an extension, any extension... pick your own, pick somebody else's... it doesn't matter. We have a mix of Firefox developers porting their own, and community members kicking in to port as-yet unclaimed ones.
- Email stevel (stevel at songbirdnest dot com), and let him know which extension(s) you want to work on. He'll take care of updating the table and all that
- Start hacking on the extension! Check out some of our developer resources here:
- Add-on API Pages @ the Songbird Developer Centre
- Firefox Extension Porting Guide
And don't forget our Developer Forums, and you should totally drop by our IRC channel on irc.mozilla.org, #songbird and say hi. If you get stuck, need some help, or just wanna chat - we're always on the forums & channel.
- Test test test! If you want some help getting users to test, drop stevel a note, and he'll round up some willing guinea pigs
- All finished? Upload your extension to our Add-ons Site, and let stevel know. He'll update the table accordingly.
Got any questions? Comments? Anything at all? Feel free to ping stevel at anytime by email, forums, or IRC.
